1. In general, how did C&C’s first organizational structure contribute to the store managers’ dissatisfaction? The overall managerial structure of the company inhibited communication and cross training for its managers. The lack of communication between functional specialties keeps cooperation down and thus can lead to poor performance. The inability to be cross trained in multiple functional areas restricts their ability for promotion. The store managers did not have control of their entire stores, and lacked training and development for higher level management positions. 2. What effect did it have had for store meat and produce managers to report to district specialists? Store Managers had no authority over Produce and Meat Department managers. Separate departments were unable to work together for the good of the entire store. This led to centralized decision making up several vertical linkages. 3. What structural problems contributed to the chain being slow to adapt to change? To make changes at the store level, information had to be passed by the meat, produce, and grocery managers up three to four vertical linkages before a centralized decision could be made at the district director level. Also, stores lacked the ability to add more specialized departments like pharmacies or gourmet departments. 4. Why was cooperation within stores so poor? Each store lacked a centralized decision maker for the local store. Multiple managers oversaw multiple functional areas without reporting to a primary source. This created conflicted decision making without consultation in regards to the overall strategy of that store. 5. With the proposed restructure the store manager would have complete store control and better training from the district supervisor. It also allowed for better adaptation to local conditions. b. Meat and Produce departments now would report to a local store manager that can make decisions for the entire store. c. The new structure provides more flexibility with decision making and allowing for expansion into other specialty areas. 6. What disadvantages might emerge over time with the proposed reorganization? The new structure is more horizontal than vertical and may lead to decreases in efficiency due to less emphasis on specialized tasks and reporting to centralized decision makers. 7. Given the advantages and disadvantages of each of the two structures, which would you adopt, and why? (Remember that no structure has only advantages, so if your discussion begins to take on that tone, broaden the input for a more well-rounded approach.) The original structure was more vertical and lacked shared tasks, horizontal communication, and centralized decision making at the store level. The new structure is more horizontal in layout and is streamlined for individual learning and development as well as shared empowerment. The rest of the film is propelled by CBSâ€⠄¢ decision not to air the interview, which Bergman fights to the bitter end. CBS apparently has a lucrative merger that could be jeopardized by a lawsuit from Brown & Williamson. Helen Caperelli (Gina Gershon) informs Bergman and Mike Wallace (Christopher Plummer) that they can not air the interview due to the impending suit–apparently, B&W can sue CBS for being a third party  in the dissolvement of the confidentiality agreement. After much soul-searching, CBS finally airs the interview. All and all Wigand, himself, is even corrupted by the promise of money: tell us what you know, and we’ll pay you. Corporations aren’t ruled by people–they are ruled by money, and lots of it. This may be a depiction of a small time in the United States’ history, but its themes can be interpreted for any time. I believe in blowing the whistle isn’t a good thing because as you can see in the movie Wigand lost his family, his job, and he lost a lot of money â€Å"blowing the whistle†. Historical Development Judaism Between the two religions, Judaism is the oldest. It has as its origins thousands of years before Jesus and traces its roots to the beginnings of mankind (Religionfacts, 2013). Abraham is said to be the creator of Judaism as it was told in the Torah. As the second oldest world religion, Judaism began many thousands of years before Christianity (Spat z,2008). According to historical accounts, God created a covenant with Abraham to form a new nation. He was to leave the place where he was living and move to a different area. It is not known exactly when this happened because it happened before history was recorded; the estimated time period for this is â€Å"around 2000 B.C.E† (Spatz, 2008, para. 3). In both plays the main characters are not seen in scene 1 of the plays however are mentioned and we gain knowledge of the characters through the voice of others. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is fist mentioned by his mother, Lady Montague when she says â€Å"O where is Romeo? Saw you him today? † also when lady Montague asks Benvolio where Romeo was he replied that he was up an hour before dawn, walking west of the city and trying to calm his troubled mind, when he saw Romeo in a grove of sycamore. Benvolio walked towards his friend, but Romeo spotted him and went further into the woods, out of sight. This shows that he is trying to isolate himself away from everyone. Benvolio knew how Romeo felt so wanted to leave him alone, however lord Montague doesnt agree that Romeo should be left alone. He tells Benvolio that Romeo is often out in the sycamore grove: Many a morning hath he there been seen, with tears augmenting the fresh morning dew, adding to clouds more clouds with his deep sighs†. Not only does Romeo wander about, weeping and sighing, he also locks himself in his room and makes it dark. In Macbeth, Macbeth is first mentioned by the witches, which is not a good sign because in Shakespeare’s day if you are connected to witches in any way its bad. In scene 2, the captain describes Macbeth as â€Å"brave† and that his sword is â€Å"smoked† with blood. This suggests that Macbeth is a violent and cruel killer. In both plays we can identify that conflict are very close to both Romeo and Macbeth although Macbeth has a greater involvement in it because Romeo isn’t interested in his family feud. As his father is worriedly talking about him, Romeo appears. Benvolio asks Romeos parents to step aside so that he can find out whats wrong with Romeo. Benvolio promises that if he doesnt discover what Romeos problem is, it wont be for lack of trying, he says, Ill know his grievance, or be much denied . Benvolio is now seeking out Romeo to find out what’s wrong with him . Though he hasnt been saying anything to his parents, Romeo is open with his friend. Benvolio asks questions to Romeo to help the audience find out what’s wrong with him, and Romeo tells him that he is Out of her favour, where I am in love Then follows a long discussion of love, during which we find that Romeo is in love. The fact that Romeo confides with Benvolio shows their true relationship . For a moment, it appears that Romeo is tired of talking about love. He asks Benvolio where they are going to have lunch, and then says, O me! What fray was here? But neither food nor fighting can really turn Romeos thoughts away from love. Rather than let Benvolio say anything about the brawl, Romeo says, Yet tell me not, for I have heard it all. Heres much to do with hate, but more with love . In saying, I have heard it all, Romeo does not mean that he has heard all about the fight that just took place. He means that he has heard all about fighting in general. And he doesnt care. Chitobiase is similar to and may share a common ancestry to the a-chain of human b-hexos-aminidase. Chitobiase is encoded by chb.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In this experiment, a restriction map for restriction enzymes Eco R1, Pst1 and Hind III using Southern hybridization and restriction analysis of pRSG 192. pRSG 192 is a recombinant plasmid derived from the chb gene and pUC 19, a 2.7kb engineered plasmid which encodes for ampicillin resistance, a portion of the lac operon and a multiple cloning region . The chb gene exists as a 3.6 kb insert in the mutiple cloning region of pUC 19.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The major goals of Experiment One will be to isolate pRSG 192 from an overnight culture of E. coli, amplify a region of the chb gene using PCR, and to map restriction sites within the chb gene using restriction analysis and Southern hybridization. Methods Plasmid Isolation Four microfuge tubes containing cell pellets representing 3.0ml of cells(2 x 1.5ml) from an overnight culture of E. coli were prepared. The supernatant fluid was discarded and each pellet was resuspended in 150ul of TE buffer(10mM Tris-HCl, pH 8.0; 0.1 EDTA). 300ul of SDS(1% SDS, 0.2 N NaOH) was added to each pellet. The tubes were placed on ice for five minutes, after which, 225ul of ice-cold 3M potassium acetate(pH 4.8) was added. The tubes were again placed on ice for five minutes and subsequently microfuged for five minutes. The supernatants were recovered and transferred to new tubes. One volume of phenol/chloroform was added to each new tube. The tubes were shaken vigorously for two minutes and centrifuged for five minutes. The upper, aqueous phase was recovered and transferred to a new tube. One volume of chloroform was added to each tube. The tubes were vigorously mixed and microfuged for three minutes.

David Hume’s Two Definitions of Cause David Hume’s two definitions of cause found in both A Treatise of Human Nature, and An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding have been the center of much controversy in regards to his actual view of causation. Much of the debate centers on the lack of consistency between the two definitions and also with the definitions as a part of the greater text. As for the latter objection, much of the inconsistency can be remedied by sticking to the account presented in the Enquiry, as Hume makes explicit in the Author’s Advertisement that the Treatise was a â€Å"work which the Author [Hume] had projected before he left College, and which he wrote and published not long after. But not finding it successful, he was sensible of his error in going to the press to early, and he cast the whole anew in the following pieces, where some negligence in his former reasoning and more in the expression, are, he hopes, corrected.† (Hume 1772, xxxi) Generally the inconsistencies are cit ed from the Treatise, which fails to recognize the purpose of the Enquiry. This brings us to the possible tension between the two definitions. J.A. Robinson, for example, believes the two definitions cannot refer to the same thing. Don Garrett feels that the two definitions are possible, but only with further interpretation. I will argue that the tension arises from a possible forgetfulness on the part of the reader about Hume’s aims as a philosopher, and that Hume’s Enquiry stands on its own without any need for a critic’s extrapolations. To understand Hume’s interpretation of causation and the arguments against it, we must first follow the steps Hume took to come to his conclusion. This requires brief consideration of Hume’s copy princi... ...place. If both definitions of ‘cause’ are necessary for a full understanding of the word, and an absolute reading becomes problematic and unnecessary, then neither Robinson’s nor Garrett’s interpretations are correct. If my account of Hume’s mitigated skepticism is correct, then I see no need to go any further than the Enquiry to understand Hume’s theory of causation. As a philosopher, Hume recognized the constraints of our reasoning, and as a man, he was able to give an explanation for our actions. He need to join a gym, drink  more water and eat healthy (five a day fruit and vegetable). The benefits he will get are self-confidence, energy which will help him to spend time with his family, relief of stress and reduce the risk of a heart attack. Regular physical activity can help you prevent or manage a wide range of health problems and concerns, including stroke, metabolic syndrome, type two diabetes, depression, and certain types of cancer, arthritis and falls. Personal Response: Writer Lois Lowry is a magnificent writer I understood perfectly how it is to be despised in a community where defects and imperfection are enough reasons to be neglected and left to die. I enjoyed reading the vivid scenes, but the part I enjoyed most is when Kira meets her father, who appeared to be a blind man struck by Jamison, whom I did not suspect would be anything but good. Lois Lowry has a talent in bringing suspense to the fullest, making the reader jump in anticipation to another scene that would be anything except boring. It made me think that culture and traditions have a way of ruling people especially children. Instead of helping people out, certain old traditions are taking their life out. Extension Ideas: What do you think are the talents that you possess? Express it with the use of art. Do you have certain talents that, you believe, should be honored and harnessed? The quick reference is to help students become familiar with the APA style of writing academic papers in a university setting. The key is getting students to not fear writing assignments. Writing is like reading. Students need a lot of practice to help them master the skill. Chapter 1 BASIC FORM AND APPEARANCE Setting up the paper: Margins Set up all margins, using 1-inch margins on all sides of each page. Justify the left side of the page, leave the right side ragged. Spacing The first line of each paragraph should be indented five spaces. The text, throughout the paper, must be doubled-spaced. Use one or two spaces between sentences and one space between words. Be consistent throughout paper. Font Styles The text, throughout the paper, must be written in the same font: Use Time New Roman. Use 12-point size. For emphasis, italics may be used; do not use bold, underlining, or all-capital letters. Page Numbers Insert page numbers in the upper right-hand corner, 1† inside the margin of the paper and ? † from top of page (see Example 1). When inserting the page numbers, do not use the abbreviation P. or p. or the word page. All pages will be numbered in sequence, starting with the title page (page 1) and ending with the reference list. Page Headers Typically, the running head is required only for publication. Check with your instructor regarding the preference for using a running head. The words Running head, only appear on the title page. Use no more than the first 50 characters of the title, left justified of the page number, located in the page header of the paper, and located ? † from the top of the page and 1† from the right edge of the paper. Bold must be used. There are 5-heading levels, in APA, to separate and classify paper sections. The 6th edition of the APA manual revises and simplifies previous heading guidelines. Regardless of the number of levels, always use the headings in order, beginning with level one.
